Afa is the Ewe system and divinity of divination; Westermann (1905) glosses afa as divination (ka afa, to divine) and afakala as diviner. Gbolonyo (2005) notes that Afa is popularly known as Kpoli/Se, 'destiny' or 'divinity of divination', through whom people seek to foresee the future, and relates it to the Yoruba Ifa system; Anlo oral tradition he cites places its origin at Adzatome.
