Ametsitsi (ame tsitsi) means an old person or elder in Ewe. Westermann (1905) gives tsitsiawo / ame tsitsiwo as 'the elders' and the expression 'to bring a matter before the elders'. His German–Ewe volume (1906) lists ame tsitsi alongside amegã for 'old person'.
The ametsitsiwo were consulted on the matter.
