The title of a paramount chief among the Nzema, equivalent to Ɔmanhene in Akan usage. The Awulae presides over a traditional area, holds the state stool, and is enstooled and destooled by the kingmakers of the matrilineage. The title is customarily prefixed to the chief's stool name.
