Among the Tallensi, a bakologo is a divining shrine. Meyer Fortes described it as a shrine linked to its owner's maternal kin, through which he sacrifices to ancestral spirits, and noted that nearly all men over forty had one. The Ninkare (Nankani) cognate bakolgo is glossed 'soothsayer's fetish'.
Fortes photographed an elder's compound with his bakologo divining shrine in the foreground.
