A month-long festival of the Dagbamba marking the birth and naming of the Prophet Muhammad, absorbed into the ritual calendar of Dagbon and reworked as a celebration of chiefly authority. It divides into Somo Damba and Naa Damba, the latter centring on the Yaa Naa. Drumming by the lunsi and the recitation of royal genealogies are central to the observance.
The Damba dance at Yendi draws chiefs from across Dagbon to the Gbewaa Palace forecourt.
