Deaya is a Frafra war dance of the Bolgatanga area, historically performed to honour warriors and now performed at the funerals of elderly men and at festivals. The Ghana News Agency glosses the festival name Nongre Deaya as Gurune for 'love war dance'. Adjei and Osei-Sarfo (2016) describe a Frafra 'Dia' war dance that re-enacts military movements in costumes whose symbolism relates to the wearer's lineage and achievements.
