Girls' puberty initiation rite of the Krobo. Abbey et al. (2021) describe it as a rite of passage meant to help pubertal girls move into adulthood by shaping moral values and social responsibilities. Steegstra's monograph Dipo and the Politics of Culture in Ghana (reviewed by Sackey 2008/09) treats it as probably the best-known and most enduring girls' initiation rite in Ghana.
The girls went through dipo together before they were recognised as young women.
