A genre of Akan sacred lyric adopted into Methodist worship on the Fante coast, sung in call and response with handclapping and bell rather than European harmony. It grew from indigenous dirge and praise forms and is led largely by women. The name means songs of the black people.
Ebibindwom is raised by a woman leader and answered by the whole congregation.
