Edina is the indigenous (Fante) name for Elmina, a coastal town in the Central Region of Ghana; its traditional state is referred to as Edinaman. The Portuguese founded São Jorge da Mina (Elmina Castle) there in 1482, and the Dutch took control in 1637. The town is noted for its fishing heritage and the Benya lagoon, focus of the Bakatue festival.
Many fishing canoes are beached along the lagoon at Edina.
