Ewe dance-drumming is played by ensembles of interlocking drums and bells led by a master drum. Ladzekpo describes the Anlo hierarchy as the composer (hesino), followed by the lead drummer (azaguno), who directs the ensemble. Instruments named in Ewe drumming include the atsimevu, sogo, kidi and kaganu drums with the gankogui bell and axatse rattle; genres include Agbadza, Agbekor and Borborbor.
