Ewe word for king or chief. Westermann (1905) states that fia denotes both the chief of a single settlement or group and the ruler of a larger territory. It forms compound titles such as dufia (town chief) and Awoamefia (Anlo paramount ruler), as Chapman (1944) notes.
The fia is installed on the stool of his lineage.
