Matczynski (2022) defines Ga Mashie as the historic Ga enclave in central Accra, also called 'Old Accra', made up of seven indigenous town quarters. Field (1940) uses the name for the Ga section of Accra whose two main divisions, Asere and Abola, placed themselves under Dutch protection.
The Homowo procession passed through the old quarters of Gã Mashie.
