Gbatsu

Ga · Ga, Greater Accra · Religion/spiritual

The shrine room of a Ga god, where a priest or prophet consults the deity. Zimmermann (1858) defines gbatšu as a shrine-house in which soothsayers have their business. Adjei (2006), drawing on Field, calls it the holy of holies where the prophet (gbalɔ) receives messages, deriving the word from gbaa 'to prophesy' and tsu 'room'.

Only the priest could enter the gbatsu to consult the god.
