A one-stringed fiddle. The Dagbani Dictionary gives goonje as 'one-stringed fiddle; fiddler'. Chernoff describes the goonji as a bowed fiddle with a half-calabash resonator covered in lizard skin and a horse-hair string, and reports the fiddlers' account that it came to Dagbon under Naa Ziblim Kulunku.
The fiddler bowed the gondze while others shook zaabia rattles.
