A 'medicine' vodu order among the Ewe whose deities are spirits of enslaved 'bought people' from the northern savanna. Rosenthal describes these spirits as having worked for southern coastal lineages. In drumming and dance rituals marked by trance, the spirits are brought back into Ewe communities to protect worshippers, heal and settle disputes. The Encyclopedia of World Cultures notes Gorovodu is popular in Ghana, Togo and Benin and is related to the Mama Tchamba order.
Rosenthal's ethnography centres on Gorovodu trance ceremonies in Togo.
