The principal annual festival of the Ga people, whose name translates roughly as 'hooting at hunger'. It commemorates deliverance from a historic famine and is marked by the sprinkling of kpokpoi, a palm-nut and maize dish, by wulɔmɔi along the streets and at family houses. A ban on drumming and noise-making precedes the festival.
During Homowo the Nai Wulɔmɔ sprinkles kpokpoi to feed the ancestors before the living eat.
