The fire festival of the Gonja, cognate with the Dagbani Bugum Chugu, held at the start of the Gonja ritual year. Torches of bound grass are carried in procession through the town and to the chief's palace. It combines Islamic calendrical reckoning with older West African fire rites.
Jintigi is observed across Gonjaland from Damongo to Salaga.
