Kong (also Kung) was one of the seven original Gonja divisions eligible for the Yagbonwura paramountcy, covering villages in north-western Gonja and present southern Wala. Massing records that the Kong and Kandia divisions 'became extinct at the end of the 19th century', and Gonja tradition says Kong was removed from the succession rotation.
Kong once rotated to the Yagbon skin with the other Gonja divisions before it was dropped from the succession.
