kore

Hausa · Hausa / Northern Nigeria; Niger; zongo communities in Ghana · Dress

In the Hausa dress vocabulary 'kore' names a dyed version of the large gown: Perani and Wolff describe how a white gown (rigar fari) was dyed to become rigar kore. They report that rigar kore was exported by Nupe producers to Kano, and that Kano artists were making it by 1851, citing Barth.

Rigar kore was one of the dyed gowns traded between Nupe and Kano in the nineteenth century.
