The leader of a trading caravan. Robinson glosses madugu (pl. madugai, madugawa) as 'leader or headman of a caravan', who walks behind the column while the jagaba walks in front. He also records it as a princely title among the Kanuri (Bornu).
The madugu led the kola caravan along the route to the Volta region.
