Mamaga is a title used in Ewe traditional areas for a paramount queen mother, the senior female traditional ruler of a state. Press reports use Mamaga/Mamagã for paramount queen mothers (for example of Ziavi), and the Ghana Tourism Authority refers to chiefs collectively as 'Togbewo and Mamawo'. Brydon notes that for Ewe areas, 'Queen Mother' is the accurate translation of the female office rather than 'woman chief'.
The mamaga presided over the women's section of the durbar.
