The sacred grove near Mankessim held as the burial place of the three leaders who brought the Fante to the coast — Obunumankoma, Odapagyan and Oson. It functioned as a major oracle for the Fante states until its destruction by Christian converts in 1850. The site remains central to Fante origin narratives.
Nananom Mpow was consulted by the Fante states before any major undertaking.
