The Ga rite of libation, in which water, gin or palm wine is poured to the ground while prayers are addressed to God, the deities and the ancestors. Nkpai opens all formal Ga gatherings and precedes any significant undertaking. The words are spoken by an elder, with those present answering in assent.
No Ga meeting begins before nkpai has been poured and the ancestors named.
