The Hausa name for the Nupe people of the middle Niger (today mainly Niger and Kwara States, Nigeria). Perani and Wolff document Nupe weavers and dyers as major makers of prestige gowns for the Hausa–Fulani elite, including rigar kore exported to Kano and gowns of barage and tsamiya silk.
Nufawa weavers supplied gowns to the Kano market.
