Naa Nyaɣsi, remembered in oral tradition as the founder of Dagbon as a kingdom. In Chernoff's 'A Drummer's Testament' (ch. II-4) he is the first-born son of Naa Shitɔbu, and is credited with the wars in which the tindanas (earth priests) were killed or displaced and replaced with chiefs from his own kin and followers. The drummer says 'it was Naa Nyaɣsi who turned Dagbon into Dagbon'.
In the drum history, Naa Nyagse is remembered as the king who made Dagbon a kingdom.
