A lightly fermented beer brewed from germinated sorghum or millet, brewed and sold by women across northern Ghana. It is drunk from calabashes at markets, funerals and festivals, and is poured in libation to ancestors. Brewing rights and pito bars are an important source of women's income.
Pito is poured to the ancestors before the first calabash is passed round.
