Sakumo is a Ga lagoon god. Field (1940) describes Sakumo as the chief lagoon god of Accra, recognised as the natural owner of the territory, who 'had become almost a war-god' after falling into Ga hands: warriors were ceremonially purified before Sakumo before going to war and Sakumo had a war stool. Field also lists Sakumo among the four town gods of Tema, where the Sakumo wulɔmɔ is one of the senior priests; Potočnik (2017) notes the conversion of the Sakumo wulɔmɔ to Christianity in 1894.
