Se is the Ewe deity or principle of destiny and of law/order. Westermann's entry treats Se as the god who allots each person's fate ('no one receives another's destiny'), also as 'Se dzoto' (Se as god, the magician) and 'Se gbetsi' (Se as ruler of spirits), and he relates akpase to kpa 'fate' and 'Se Gott'. Rosenthal cites the Gorovodu expression esesidomeda, 'the law-deity who brought me here', and Venkatachalam indexes Se as both deity and destiny.
Diviners speak of a person's Se as the destiny received before birth.
