A flat-roofed building or room, typically of mud, as opposed to a thatched one. Robinson glosses soro (pl. soraye, Kano) as 'a flat-roofed house', and notes that shigifa is the Sokoto equivalent ('a flat-roofed, as opposed to a thatched house'). Mataken soro are the stairs to an upper floor.
The chief's soro had a domed mud ceiling.
