Togbe (tɔgbe/tɔgbui) literally means grandfather or ancestor and is the honorific title used before the names of Ewe chiefs. Westermann glosses tɔgbui as 'grandfather, ancestor, forefather' and uses 'mía tɔgbuiwo' for 'our forefathers'. The Ghana Tourism Authority refers to the chiefs of Asogli as 'Togbewo' (plural), alongside queen mothers 'Mamawo'.
Togbe is placed before a chief's stool name, as in formal address at durbars.
