A Dagomba women's dance. The Dagbani Dictionary gives, as one sense of the verb tɔra, 'to dance a particular women's dance, Tora'. In Chernoff's 'A Drummer's Testament' (ch. I-19) Tɔra is 'a dance for women' in which dancers stand in a line, clap and sing, while two women run apart and come back to knock their buttocks together; it is called for weddings, funerals and festivals. Nketia (1966) lists tora among the recreational musical types of the Dagomba area.
At the wedding the women formed a line to dance Tora.
