Vodun is the Gbe (Fon/Ewe) term for spirit powers and the religious complex devoted to them; Britannica refers to 'the West African Vodun religion' as the root of Haitian Vodou. Among the Ewe, Westermann records the cognate vodu both as a branch of the Yeʋe cult and as a general term for it.
Vodun is practised along the coast from Benin to southeastern Ghana.
