Woyoo is the Ga term for a female spirit medium or priestess who is possessed by a deity (wɔŋ). Zimmermann (1858) glosses woyo as 'fetish-priestess' and records ye woyo 'to be a priestess' and woyo-alade 'attire of a priestess'. Adu (2021) translates wɔyo as 'the Ga medium', who in prayer petitions the spirit powers to destroy evil.
A woyoo may speak on behalf of a deity during rites.
