A quarter of a Ghanaian town settled by Hausa-speaking and other northern Muslim migrants, historically forming around trade routes and caravan stopping-places. The name derives from the Hausa word for a caravan camp or lodging. Zongo communities have their own Sarkin Zongo, mosques and Islamic schools.
The Accra Zongo grew from a nineteenth-century caravan halt into a permanent quarter.
